Polling on Aug 25 for Permatang Pasir

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 10 — Polling for the Permatang Pasir state seat in Penang has been set for Aug 25 while nomination falls on Aug 17.

Pakatan Rakyat is expected to announce its candidate on Thursday for the by-election, and will face Umno which has already expressed its intention of contesting.

The seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent assemblyman Datuk Mohd Hamdan Abdul Rahman of PAS on July 31.

Mohd Hamdan garnered 11,004 votes to defeat BN’s Ahmad Sahar Shuib by a majority of 5,433 votes in the March 2008 general election.
